The olive tree is evergreen, reaching 5–8 metres in height, and in some cases 15–22 metres. The olive plant is notable for its longevity, living up to 1,500–2,000 years. It is a heat-loving plant suited to a dry subtropical climate, requiring long, hot summers and mild, humid winters. Its frost resistance is in the range of -17°C.
